In this issue we focus on UL Tested System Designs for through penetrations and the process of choosing the proper design for the conditions you encounter. For the purpose of this newsletter, we will refer to these designs as UL Tested System Designs or UL Classified Systems as Underwriters Laboratory is the most recognized testing agency. We recognize that there are other testing agencies; but we always recommend checking the project specifications, contract documents or with the appropriate AHJ to ensure that the applicable agency’s testing parameters are followed.

When firestop is mentioned many people envision red-caulk. True, firestop can be red, but it can also be blue, yellow, grey…and sometimes it isn’t even caulk at all. This issues’s most important point is THE SYSTEM CARRIES THE RATING, NOT THE PRODUCT!
